I'm Von Cassidy and I live near Mooresville. I have a '69 Chevelle SS396 that is an original 300 Deluxe hardtop model with the SS396 option (one of approximately 1800 produced out of 86,307 total '69 SS396's). It has a 396 375 hp (clone) engine with L78 cam & lifters, valves, valvesprings, pistons, intake, and carb; Muncie M20 4sp; and 3.73 posi rear.  Performance enhancing features include: engine with .040 overbore, balanced, 0 decked, 10.0-1 comp ratio, and ported heads with larger valves; Dynomax headers and mufflers; MSD 6AL ignition box (hidden); Pertronix electronic trigger; Hurst CP shifter with Muncie handle; polyurethane rear suspension bushings; and Sun tach and gauges. The color is '69 Chevelle Garnet Red (BASF base/clear) and the interior is black. The car was restored to near original condition with 300 Deluxe items such as bench seat (buckets not available on 300 Deluxes), vinyl floor covering, and basketweave pattern headliner. Due to the unavailability of 300 Deluxe seat upholstery and door panels, those items are new Malibu SS versions. I did all the the work on the car myself with the exception of paint. The body was raised up off the frame during the work. I did all the body work and rebuilt every mechanical component myself including engine, trans, differential, brakes, suspension, etc.

ed. note:  Von has quite a few pictures of his Chevelle on this site.

The '69 Malibu is my "driver" car. It's pretty much stock except paint. It had a 307 Powerglide when I got it but now has a stock rebuilt '69 350, 255 hp and TH350 trans. It's a factory air car with PS and PB. It had the optional GM wire spoke hubcaps but I replaced  them with the SS wheels. It has the original Parchment interior and was originally Burnished Brown with Parchment vinyl top. I plan to eventually paint  it '69 Burgundy or Garnet Red.

Here’s some pics of my ‘69 Corvette when I owned it.

I saw my old race car at the US Nationals (Sept ‘06). It now belongs to a guy from Houma,  Louisiana. I talked to him quite a while. Stills runs B/SA but now rules are more liberal now than when I ran it. I ran 11.40's at US Nats, he was running 10.60's. Essentially only the body is the same. The owner before him all but trashed the car. I built it  in 1976 and sold it in 1983. Glad to see it's still running.

As you can see, the car was named “Butch Cassidy”

Current owner is from Houma, Louisiana
