Well after it poured rain in the morning I would've bet considerable money it was going to rain some more Saturday afternoon August 25. But HSCA President Tom Mikesell made the gutsy call shortly after noon to go ahead with the show, benefitting Riley Hospital for Children. We lucked out big time and no more rain came down, the skies gradually cleared, and 58 entrants showed for the 4th annual HSCA car show at Indy Speed, Custom, and Restoration in Brownsburg. Granted the car count was probably somewhat down due to the threatening (for a while anyway) weather but many high quality cars came and the show went off without a hitch. Donna's Rock & Roll Oldies played the tunes and the Brownsburg HS Wrestling Team sold some excellent hamburgers, hot dogs, and other food and drink. Best of Show trophy sponsor Dave Himes was there with his 3000 hp '55 Chevy Pro-Mod car and fired it up a couple times for everyone's enjoyment. An abundance of nice door prizes were given away and a 50/50 drawing was held. Approximately eleven Chevelles and two Pontiacs were on display by HSCA members. Even an old fire truck was in the show. Speaking of awards, over 40 of the finest awards ever given at a local car show were handed out to deserving winners. Thanks to the outstanding craftsmanship of member Ken Townsend and the many sponsors, these awards were ones that will be placed in the very front of the winners' trophy cases. The Best of Show trophy was a sight to behold. Standing 64" tall, made of Spanish Cedar and 7 kinds of glass, with a polished aluminum piston and rod from Himes's Pro-Mod car, it even had built-in lighting and wheels for moving. A huge thanks goes to Carey Bewly and Indy Speed, Custom, and Restoration for hosting the show and providing an Indy SCR Pick award, which was an original brick from the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Recently passed member John McEwen, Jr's '67 Chevelle SS was on display, driven to the show by his brother (see pic on page 2). Donations in his memory were being accepted to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. This year's show was no doubt a success and will continue to grow in the future, especially if Mother Nature cooperates a little better. Pictures are below and on the next two pages. More pictures of the awards and winners are on the club website at www.indianachevelles.com.
