This issue the spotlight is on our new President, Clarence Craig. Clarence and his wife of 17 years, Susan, and their two boys ages five and three, reside near Pittsboro. Clarence is 39 and grew up on the NW side of Indy. He has a degree in aviation maintenance and works for Fed Ex. He met Susan, who graduated with an RN degree, while both were at Vincennes University. He was in the U.S. Air Force in Florida and worked for an airline in Minnesota before settling back in Indy. Clarence worked for his father at a gas station as a teen when he got his first Chevelle, a ’71. He later had a ’68 Chevelle before buying a new ’89 Mustang GT. He says the Mustang was an electrical nightmare and swore off Fords after that.
Before starting on the knockout ’71 Chevelle convertible he now has, he built a couple of kit cars; a dune buggy with Corvair engine and a Viper body on an ’87 Vette chassis. Then came the multi award winning ’71, which was a four year project completed in 2003. He says that one won’t be sold and it’s obvious why to anyone that’s seen it. His next project is a ’56 Buick Special which belonged to Susan’s grandfather. Other interesting cars they’ve owned include a ’95 Trans Am, ’82 Vette, ’95 3000GT, and two 4Runners.
Clarence’s other interests include hunting, RC planes and cars, and spending time with his family.
