The car was a factory Powerglide-equipped '67 Chevelle SS 396 with bucket seats & console. For my conversion I went to a '93-'97 F-body (Camaro) T56. It has a 26T input shaft spline (takes the 26T clutch disc) & a 27T output shaft (same as Turbo 350 & Powerglide). The ratios of this transmission are: 1st = 2.66, 2nd = 1.78, 3rd = 1.30, 4th = 1.00, 5th = 0.74, 6th = 0.50. I had a tailhousing from a GM aftermarket unit installed with its mechanical speedo feature. I pulled the tone wheel for electronic pickup from the trans output shaft & replaced it with a speedo drive gear from a T5 trans. The trans then accepted my factory speedo cable & allows for speedo gear selection & calibration. The trans has an electric reverse lockout solenoid that you can wire into a clutch switch & a backup light switch for which you can buy a factory connector/wire from GM. I used a protractor level & recorded all the factory angles of the "old" engine, transmission, & driveshaft before disassembly. The length of the T56 trans required a shorter driveshaft. Patterson Driveshaft in Indy took care of that task for me with a new driveshaft so I could keep my old one unaltered. Since I was converting an automatic I didn't have any clutch hardware, so I bought a set of factory pedals at a swap meet & bought the Weir T56 package. The package included the bellhousing, dust shield, hydraulic throwout bearing- complete with lines & bleeder installed, & clutch master cylinder. This package accepts a factory flywheel, 11" clutch & the starter from use with the A/T.
