This issue’s spotlight is on Tom and Melissa Mikesell. Tom is the club Vice President and Melissa is a very active member. They reside in Yorktown and both work in Muncie. Tom is a manufacturing engineer and Melissa is a purchasing agent. They have a 27 year old daughter, Amanda, who was recently married.
Tom is 49 years old and grew up on a small farm near Pompeii, Michigan. He graduated from Ithaca High School and Ferris State University. He worked various factory jobs in Michigan before moving to God’s Country (Indiana) in 1977 to take a tool designer position at Borg Warner in Muncie. His first car was a ’63 Buick LeSabre that he, his dad, and brother built from 2 totaled cars. He drove it many years then built/owned 3 dune buggies with the third being a V6 sandrail which he still has. Other cars he’s owned include a ’57 Chevy, ’67 GTO, ’74 Trans Am, several motorcycles, and the famous flamed ’48 Studebaker pickup he built in ’86-’87 and still has. He has a Marina Blue ’67 Chevelle SS (his HS dream car) nearing completion that will no doubt be a beauty. He’ll soon be able to graduate from sitting in it and making “vroom, vroom” sounds. His other interests include listening to oldies music and playing with his computer.
Melissa is 52 and grew up in Alma, Michigan. She graduated from Alma HS and attended Montcalm College. She worked at various office jobs in Michigan and Indiana (after the ’77 move), then in ’79 went to Boyce Forms Systems where she’s been since. Melissa has always had a little bit of hot rodder in her too. She and Tom met while cruising “the circuit” in Alma on a Saturday night. She bought new a ’71 Mustang Sportroof, which she owned til ’77, and has owned her own Ski Doo snowmobile and a motorcycle. Her other interests include Girl Scouting, arts and crafts, and experimenting with her computer.
Tom and Melissa both look forward to getting the ’67 SS on the road, but meanwhile cruise the Studie pickup and enjoy the friends they’ve made at HSCA.
We have eleven new members: Rod Seaman, Indy; Chris Williams, Indy; Brian Sellmeyer, Avon; Mike Sellmeyer, Avon; Tony Edwards, Martinsville; Evan Napier, Plainfield; Kevin Augustin, Jr., Greenwood; Walter Turpin, Indy; Darrell Arnett, Plainfield; Roger Shaffer, Selma; and Jack Klase, Greenwood
HSCA wishes to thank the members who helped out at Indy Cruise. Although the event didn’t turn out like everyone hoped, it was a learning experience. The club did get some items of value for its efforts, which will add to the club Treasury bottom line.
