This issue's member spotlight is on Jeff Clinger, who has a very nice '69 Malibu convertible and is doing a frame-off restoration on a '69 SS. Jeff lives in the Mooresville area with wife Elizabeth (Lisa) and 11 year old daughter Cayla. Jeff grew up in the Haughville area of Indy and attended Crispus Attucks HS from '75 to '79. He joined the Navy in '79 and was in the submarine service 2 ½ years then was a Navy diver 2 ½ years. After the Navy he had various jobs in California and Florida, including being a probation officer in Miami, but always managed to return home for the Indy 500. He returned to stay in '87 and joined the Indpls Fire Dept in '88 where he is a Captain today. Jeff met Lisa in '88 and they were married in '95. Lisa is originally from Manila, Philippines and is a nurse and X-ray tech at Immediate Care Centers. She has a 24 year old daughter Rizaleah.
Jeff's first car was a '68 Impala at age 14. He had paper routes and worked as a dishwasher to support trying to build it into a hot rod. His best friend (now brother-in-law) had a '68 Chevelle SS and Jeff liked it so much that he got one two years later. He gave it to a friend when he enlisted in the Navy, never to see it again. The fastest car in his HS when he was a Freshman was another '68 Chevelle SS and eventually Jeff bought that one  when he got out of the Navy. He sold it later when he thought Mustang GT's were the way to go. "Everybody makes mistakes", says Jeff. He owned a used car lot for 5 years and had a lot of cars but '69 Chevelles have always been his favorite. He gave up the car hobby for a few years to concentrate on his job and he and Lisa's real estate company. A couple years ago he got the car bug again and bought the '69 SS he intends to race. It's a long term restoration project in his rare spare time. Meantime Lisa and Cayla decided they needed one so he bought the '69 Malibu convertible to drive while til the SS is done.
Jeff's other hobbies and interests are Scuba diving and following auto racing. He's a past member of a Mustang club but says the cars and people in the Chevelle club are so much better that he could

never go back.

HSCA Best of Show Trophy

Be sure to see the picture on page 10 of the HSCA car show Best of Show trophy. It's truly amazing. Ken Townsend, Dennis Barnett, and others really outdid themselves on this piece of outstanding craftsmanship. It includes an aluminum rod and piston from Dave Himes' Pro-Mod car, polished to a mirror finish. Also many types of cut glass, stained wood, lighting, wheels, and more. For a better picture and details on what went into this work of art, go to the HSCA website at: www.indianachevelles.com.
