This issue's member spotlight is on Dave Daugherty. Dave is 65 years young and is one of the club's charter members. He owns a cherry '66 Chevelle SS396 that he actually bought new (more on that later). Dave was born and raised in Indy and graduated from Tech HS. He and wife Sharon now live in the Bargersville area. Dave was a member of the US Marine Corps Reserve and worked at Citizens Gas for 32 years then retired in '99. Since then he has worked part-time for Modern Offset Supply, Chick-Fil-A, and Fed-Ex where he now works. Dave and Sharon were married in Indy in 1965 and have 3 grown children and 9 grandchildren. Sharon was also born and raised in Indy and graduated from Tech HS. She works at a children's day care center. Dave's first car was a '56 Ford Custom. He then had a '58 Chevy impala with 348, the '66 Chevelle SS396 he has now, a '63 Chevy, and a '75 Chevy wagon. He bought the '66 Chevelle SS396 new, an Aztec Bronze 325 hp 4 speed beauty. He sold it to his nephew in '82 for $500 but realized his mistake and bought it back a little over a year later for $800. Dave started a full restoration in 2000. Body and paint work were completed in 2006 and it was put back on the road. Since then he has been upgrading small items which are mostly complete (see "Member Pictures"). He had Dave Himes Automazing make some mild performance mods to the 396 engine so that it has considerably more than its original 325 hp. He now has, in addition to the '66 Chevelle SS, a '66 Malibu wagon, a '76 Monte Carlo, and a '37 Chevy pickup which will be his next project. Dave also enjoys hunting, bluegrass music, and playing banjo and guitar. He's active in his church, the New Life Community Wesleyan Church.
