Chevelleness

The following is from a post on the Team Chevelle website by TC member Kevin McHugh. It's a pretty good description of our Chevelle "sickness":

There's a feeling you get when you own a Chevelle. It's hard to describe because there is no single word in the English vocabulary to describe it. It is a mixed bag of emotions that run the gamut from despair to euphoria. There's only one word to convey this complex myriad of feelings, and that word is Chevelleness. Chevelleness is the excitement you feel when you load your first Chevelle up on the trailer and tow it home. It is the satisfaction of knowing you rescued a rusty, rotting hulk from the inevitable doom of the crusher. Chevelleness is the despair you feel when you have stripped the body and found the true extent of the cancer. It is rummaging through boneyards for that hard to find part. Chevellenss is the ingenuity to fabricate a custom part or make an aftermarket part fit. It is the joy you feel when you see the results of months in the body shop, the contoured body lines, the perfectly aligned body panels, and clear coat buffed to a flawless gloss. It is the reward of small successes and the elation of glorious triumphs, or suffering the minor disappointments and the agony of catastrophic failures. Chevelleness is the heartache of wiped lobes, thrown rods and spun bearings It is the gratification of starting up a fresh build and breaking the cam in with open headers while the neighbors run from their houses to see what the commotion is. It is the exhilaration of a 4000 rpm dump the clutch launch, the feeling you get laid back in the seat at WOT and travelling1320 feet in 12 seconds or better. Chevelleness is sweat, busted knuckles, tears, bloodshed, and profanity. It's the paternal pride you feel when your son helps you work on the car. Chevelleness is knowing you look good going down the street, and the feeling you get when you hear that big cam loping through 3 inch exhausts at idle. Chevelleness is the camaraderie of owners everywhere. It is barbeques and cold beers with good friends on hot summer nights. It is cruise-ins and road trips to nowhere and back. Chevelleness is Chevellabration, a myriad of Chevelles in all manner of dress. It is being in the middle of a parade of Chevelles as far as you can see in both directions. Chevelleness is head to head drag racing. Most of all Chevelleness is the pure pleasure, pride, and sheer fun of owning, wrenching on, and driving this piece of American muscle car history. Add it all up, and that is Chevelleness.
