Chevellabration '07

Gas prices reached record highs in early June, but that didn't seem to deter the owners of approximately 400 Chevelles from making the journey to Goodlettsville, TN for the 11th edition of ACES Chevellabration held June 7-9. It appeared that possibly a record number of Chevelles were on the show field at beautiful Moss-Wright Park and hundreds of enthusiastic owners, family, and friends took part in the festivities. Several HSCA members made the trek from Indiana to enjoy the largest gathering of Chevelles anywhere.
Cruises, contests, seminars, vendor displays, a swap meet, a parts auction for charity, Chevelle drag racing at Music City Raceway, parade laps at Nashville Super Speedway, and of course the car show were among the many activities available. Some new attractions this year were a charity drag race passenger ride-along in two 6 second (1/8 mile) Chevelles, and Top 3 winners in each car show class had the option of being special guests at the NASCAR Busch race at NSS on Saturday. The charity drag race ride-along consisted of two raffle winners getting a full blast ride down the 1/8 mile dragstrip as a passenger in either HSCA member Mike Norman's '65 383 smallblock on nitrous, or Bill Burke's '70 540 big block. The passengers' eyes were big as saucers and no doubt their underwear was in danger. Proceeds from that raffle and the huge parts auction on Saturday, as well as other fund raising efforts, went to ACES President Chuck Hanson's favorite charity in memory of his late son Cameron. The Top 3 award winners in each of the car show classes that chose to do so, traveled to the NASCAR Busch race Saturday and were special guests at the race. Their Chevelles were put on display at the spectator entrance and they were part of a special Chevelle parade lap before the race in front of the thousands of spectators.
As always the hotel parking lots were alive with bench racing activity at night from Wednesday through  Saturday. The big Cajun cooking feast was again put on by the Heart of Dixie Chevelle Club on Saturday night and the jambalaya was delicious. A big plus this year, safety-wise, was that the dangerous parking lot burnouts of the past were almost non-existent after emphasis was put on eliminating them.
CB '07 was the usual big success and left most everyone who attended anxious for next year's version and wondering if it's possible to be any better. Pics below and next two pages:
